Living the Golden Rule (Download)
In this lesson, students will learn about Jesus’ teachings from the Sermon on the Mount, specifically the Golden Rule, where Jesus instructs us to “do to others as you would have them do to you.”
Teaching kids to treat others as they would like to be treated is one of the earliest foundations of building a culture of life—where all people are respected and cherished.
Why is this a crucial teaching for children to learn? It forms the earliest foundations of pro-life teachings.
When children learn empathy, when they see others through God's eyes, and when they come to understand that all people have value, they begin to live these truths. They then go out into the world and follow this Golden Rule: They do unto others as they would have done to them. They treat others with dignity and respect. They protect the vulnerable. They live their faith proudly.
This is why teachings like this matter. If kids don’t learn this valuable lesson, they find it much more difficult later to learn to treat people well.
Living the Golden Rule reminds students that all people are created in the image and likeness of God and that all deserve respect and love.
